2022-04-26 Tue

The Comorian franc is the official currency of Comoros. The first Comorian paper money was issued in 1920. It consisted of an emergency issue of Madagascar postage stamps fixed to cards to allow them to circulate as money. Denominations of 50 centimes and 1 franc were issued. The bank took over the production of paper money in 1984.

Comoros' 500-Franc note was nominated for the IBNS Banknote of the Year award in the year 2006. The pink and green banknote depicts a Lemur monkey at the upper center of the obverse. The reverse features a group of orchids in the center and a poem on the left.

Franc notes dated 2005, and 2006 were issued with the denominations of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, and 10,000. They contain the EURion constellation, along with further improved security features making them more difficult to counterfeit.
