Shyam Prasad Mukherji was an Indian politician; he served India as Minister for Industry. He had also served as the president of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh between 1943 and 1946. He founded Bhartiya Jana Sangh in 1951.Shyama Prasad Mukherji started his career in 1929; he entered the Bengal Legislative Council as an Indian National Congress (INC) candidate representing Calcutta University. Between 1941 and 1942, he served as Finance Minister of Bengal. He joined Hindu Mahasabha in Bengal in 1939 and became its acting president in that same year. He was appointed as the working president of the organization in 1940. To prevent the involvement of Hindu-majority areas in a Muslim-dominated East Pakistan, he demanded the partition of Bengal in 1946.
