Known for his famous role as Thakur in Blockbuster Sholay, Sanjeev Kapoor was born on 9th July 1938. Today is his 78th Birth Anniversary.Born as Harihar Jethalal Jariwala, Sanjeev Kumar was a noted actor of Bollywood. He was born in a simple Gujrati family of Mumbai. He started with stage performances and eventually went on screen and become one of the most remembered actors of Bollywood.
Sanjeev Kumar made his film debut with a small role in Hum Hindustani in 1960. Initially he acted along side with many famous actors such as Dilip Kumar and many more. However, it was “Khilona” which bought him recognition.
With movies like, “Seeta Aur Geeta”, “Manchali”, “Mausa” and “Pati, Patni Aur Who” he established himself as a versatile actor. “Sholay” was the peak of his career. His character – Thakur in “Sholay” made him so famous that he is still remembered for the same role. He is well remembered for his versatility and genuine portrayal of his characters.
India Post issued a special commemorative stamp of INR5.00 in the year 2013, commemorating this genuine and versatile actor of Hindi Cinema. The stamp features different roles he played in the movies with special focus on “Thalur of Sholay”.
