Welthy Honsinger Fisher was a kind-hearted liberal woman, a leader, and an eloquent preacher. She was the founder of World Education and World Literacy Canada. She was amongst those Americans who have taken a keen interest in India`s freedom, progress, and development.
Welthy Fisher was a very wealthy lady, but she lived the lives of people living in the suburbs of rural, uneducated India. She started teaching village women and became part of the village people, even though she did not know their language, customs, and beliefs. The village people looked upon her as their friend, guide, and philosopher. Fisher was honored by the Indian government, which based on her village literacy programs on her ideas, and issued a stamp in her likeness.
