2022-03-21 Mon

This unique coin is a monument to a Toronto landmark that commemorates the 100-year legacy of the Royal Ontario Museum. With 40 varying galleries and over six million items within their collections, the museum is one of the largest in North America and is noted worldwide for its contributions as a field-research institution, conducting research that spans all corners of the globe.

For 100 years, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto, Ontario, has connected visitors with the natural world around them, as well as the many cultures that have shaped human history. The coin is a great addition to any collection featuring rare antiquities, architecture, or history.

The coin features a gold-plated image of the Statue of Cleopatra VII, one of the earliest pieces acquired by the museum. Behind the bust, the crystalline-like shape of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal rises up to fill much of the image field, adding a modern element to the design. The museum’s centennial is commemorated above the building with the words “100 YEARS ANS” while below are engraved the face value of “20 DOLLARS” and the word “CANADA”.
