Purushottam Laxman Deshpande; popularly known as Pu. La. Despande was a Marathi writer and humorist from Maharashtra, India. He was also an accomplished film and stage actor, scriptwriter, author, composer, musician, singer and orator.
Pu.La.Despande is best known for characteristic humour, and an immense contribution to Marathi literature; he is best known for his works ‘Batatyachi Chaal’ and ‘Vyakti ani Valli’. His work; is translated into several languages, including English and Kannada.
Pu.La.Despande had also worked for Doordarshan and the state-owned TV channel. He was the first to interview Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on Indian television. He was a person of many talents; apart from writing, he was also a filmmaker, director, actor, music composer, and singer.
