Subramania Bharati, also known as Chinnaswami Subramania Bharati, was a Tamil writer, poet, journalist, Indian Independence activist and social reformer. He is considered the father of the modern Tamil style. Popularly known as "Mahakavi Bharathi" ("Great Poet Bharathi"), he was a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry and is considered one of the greatest Tamil literary figures of all time. His strong sense of social justice drove him to fight for self-determination.Subramania Bharati joined Tamil dairy newspaper Swadesamitran in 1904 CE. This exposure to the political affair led to his involvement in the extremist wing of the Indian National Congress (INC) party. Due to this, he had to flee to Pondicherry and lived there from 1910 to 1919. At the time of his exile, his essays and poetry of nationalism became quite famous and successful.
