The Royal Mint launches a brand new series inspired by British royals and and the coinage that they issued. The British Monarchs series kicks off with Tudor King Henry VII: the first in a collection of 21 designs, remastered from contemporary historic coinage.

British coinage provides a fascinating insight into the reigns of the nation's monarchs, documenting developments in politics, art and technology across the centuries. The Royal Mint is celebrating this rich legacy with a new series focusing on the royals whose faces have graced our currency. The British Monarchs collection will feature 21 Kings and Queens. Monarchs from five royal houses will be featured: Tudor, Stuart, Hanover, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and Windsor. First up is Henry VII, the first monarch of the House of Tudor.

The obverse of the coin depicts the crowned old head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown worn for her Coronation (her effigy known as the "Fifth Portrait"). The reverse of the coin depicts crowned a portrait of Henry VII of England, facing right within a beaded border with uneven rim, imitating a hammered coin.
