Gol Gumbaz is the most famous monument Vijaypura; it is the tomb of king Mohammad Adil Shah of the AdilShahi Dynasty. Its circular dome is said to be the second-largest in the world after St.Peter’Basilica in Rome. The construction of this tomb began in 1626 CE, completed in 1656 CE. One of the most particular attractions of this monument is the central chamber, where every sound echoed seven times.Another attraction at the Gol Gumbaz is the Whispering Gallery, where even minute sounds; can be heard 37 meters away. The construction of this building; is made in such a way that even a pin drop can be heard distinctly from across space of 38m, in Whispering Gallery.
The building got its name from the word Gol Gummata meaning circular dome. This historic, amazing building; is called the TajMahal of South India.
