Today on 21 December 1898, Noble prize winner Marie and Pierre Curie discovered the radioactive chemical element radium, a silvery-white metal used to treat cancer.

Both Marie and Pierre Curie made history after discovering his element. They not only led the discovery of the radioactive elements but also added two more elements to the periodic table, for which they shared the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The government of Djibouti issued this stamp on the 150th anniversary of Marie Curie in the year 2017. Stamps depict the picture of both Marie and Pierre Curie.
