Bharatendu Harishchandra was an Indian poet, writer, and play writer. He is known as ‘Father of Hindi Literature. He is one of the most heard names in the history of modern Hindi literature. He is the author of several dramas, life sketches, and travel accounts.
He is a recognized poet for his great work; and is also renowned as one of the supreme Hindi writers, novelists, and playwrights of modern India. Bharatendu Harichandra was also a master of several languages like Bengal, Gujarati, Marathi, Marwari, Punjabi, etc. Bharatendu Harichandra was the man behind the mass movement; that culminated in the popular slogan “Hindi, Hindu, Hindustan”.
The Indian government issued a commemorative stamp on Bharatendu Harichandra to commemorate him and his work in 1976.
