Dhanpatraisrivastava, popularly known by his pen name Premchand was an Indian author of novels and short stories Hindi and Urdu who pioneered in adapting Indian themes to Western literary styles.

Munshipremchand was one of the most celebrated writers of the Indian subcontinent. Some of his most famous novels are Godaan, Karmabhoomi, Gaban, Mansarovar. He published his first novel Soz-e-Watan in 1907; it was a collection of five short stories. He is referring to as 'upanyassamrat'. His works include more than a dozen novels, around 300 short stories, several essays, and translations of a number of foreign literary works into Hindi.
