The Battle of Salamis was a naval battle fought in September 480 BCE, between Greek and Persian forces in the Saronic Gulf, Greece. The Battle of Salamis is considered one of the great naval battles in history. The Greeks won the Battle of Salamis, and it is one of the most significant military victories in antiquity.The Persians made a big mistake attacking the Greeks and starting the Battle of Salamis. Strategically, it was not important; to fight this battle. Persians on one side were confident after winning, Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Artemision. King Xerxes; was confident of victory and set up a goal of winning the Battle of Salamis. During the Battle of Salamis, the vast majority of ships; in the Greek fleet were supplied by the city-state Athens. It is believed the Greeks lost only 40 ships whereas the Persians lost approximately 200.
