Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was an Indian barrister, statesman, and prominent Indian leader of the Indian Independence movement. He played a critical role in the integration of over 500 princely states into the Indian Union.Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel; was deeply influenced by the ideology and principle of Mahatma Gandhi. At the request of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel stepped down from the candidacy of Congress President, which ultimately turned out to be the election to choose the first Prime Minister of independent India. He was elected as the first Home Minister of Independent India and was also title as 'Iron Man of India'.
The Government of India had issued this commemorative stamp to commemorative him and his work in the year 2000.
