2021-09-09 Thu
Today on September 9, 999 CE, King of Olaf was defeated at the Battle of Svolder. The Battle of Svolder was one of the largest naval battles of the Viking era. The exact date of this battle is still unknown, but according to the historical reference, a record of this battle was written almost two centuries later. The backdrop of this battle was the unification of Norway into a single state, to gain control of the country and the spread of Christianity in Scandinavia. As a result, they created enemies throughout the Viking-dominated regions of northern Europe. The exact location of this battle is still debatable, as it depends on the source preferred. Adams of Bremen places it in Oresund, while the Iceland sources place this battle near an island called Svolder, which is otherwise unknown.
