M. Narasimham was a thirteenth governor of the Reserve Bank of India, served as the secretary in the Ministry of Finance and additional secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs. He was awarded India's second-highest civilian honor Padma Vibhushan in 2000. He joined the RBI as a research officer in its Economic Department. He was the first Reserve Bank cadre officer to be appointed as governor of the central bank.
