Commemorative Stamp on Olympic Torch
2021-08-20 Fri
Olympic Torch or Olympic flame is a symbol of the Olympic movement; it is a symbol of continuity between ancient and modern games. Some of the historians claim that flame was born in a temple built by the ancient Greeks to honor Hera, a powerful queen of the mythological gods. The Olympic flame was introduced by architect Jan Wils who designed the stadium for the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The idea of the Olympic flame is derived from ancient Greece. Ancient Greece kindles the flame using Skaphia (a type of crucible) positioning facing to the sun. The sun’s rays were constructed there and set fire to the dry grass.
