Train Passing through Countryside on Cambodian Currency
2021-08-09 Mon
The official currency of Cambodia is the riel. Today we are looking at a 0.5 Riel or 5 Kak banknote issued in 1979. The note specifications are as follows:The obverse has the Cambodian Coat of Arms to left and a scene depicting a train passing through the countryside. The reverse features a fishing scene with a rising sun and palms. As per popular belief, ‘Riel’ currency name comes from the Mekong river fish or small fish in Khmer.
Cambodia is a Southeast Asian nation whose landscape spans low-lying plains, the Mekong Delta, mountains, and the Gulf of Thailand coastline. Phnom Penh, its capital, is home to the art deco Central Market, glittering Royal Palace, and the National Museum's historical and archaeological exhibits. In the countries, northwest is the ruins of Angkor Wat, a massive stone temple complex built during the Khmer Empire.
