Vishnu Gupta was probably the last ruler of the Gupta Empire; he was one of the lesser-known of the Gupta Dynasty. He ruled the Gupta Empire between 540 CE and 550 CE; for almost; 10 years.The Gupta dynasty was the Indian dynasty that ruled between mid 3rd century CE and 543 CE. The rule of the Gupta Empire is considered the 'Golden Age' or the 'Classical Period' of India. The Gupta dynasty was founded by King Sri Gupta; during the Ancient period in India. the most notable rulers of the dynasty were Chandragupta I, Samudragupta, and Chandragupta II.
This gold Dinar was issued by king Vishnu Gupta; during his rule in Gupta Empire. This archer-type base gold dinar weighs around 9.54g. The obverse of this coin depicts ‘King standing holding bow in one hand and arrow in other’. The reverse side of this coin depicts ‘Lakshmi seated cross-legged on a lotus, holding a lotus in one hand and a noose in the other; a symbol in the left field and traces of Brahmi legend Sri Chandraditya to right.’
This gold Dinar is listed for INR 1,75,000 in the upcoming electronic auction of Classical Numismatic Gallery that will be held on 15th August 2021.
