Abanindranath Tagore was an Indian painter; he was the founder of the Indian Society of Oriental Arts. He was the nephew of Rabindranath Tagore and was one of the most important artists.Abanindranath Tagore was the first major exponent of swadeshi values in Indian arts. He also founded the Bengal School of Arts and led the development of Modern Indian Painting. He was also a noted writer for children, popularly known as ‘Aban Thakur’. Some of his popular books are Rajkahani, Buro Angla, Khirer Putul written in the Bengali language. Tagore's work was so successful that it was eventually accepted and promoted as a national Indian style within British art institutions.
