Indian rupee is a legal tender in Zimbabwe. A legal tender is any official medium of payment recognised by law.The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, on 29th January 2014, added the Indian rupee to its basket of currencies that are circulated in their country. Zimbabwe no longer has its own currency. The southern African country abandoned its local currency, the Zimbabwean dollar, in 2009 after an economic collapse caused by a world record setting inflation in the country.
The Bhutanese ngultrum is pegged at par with the Indian rupee and both the currencies are accepted in Bhutan.
The Nepalese rupee is pegged at INR0.625 and the Indian rupee is a legal tender in Nepal, except INR 500 and INR 1000 banknotes, which are not legal tender in Nepal. However both the Bhutanese ngultrum and Nepali rupee are not used in India.
The Indian rupee was also an official currency of countries like: Aden, Oman, Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the Trucial States, Kenya, Tanganyika, Uganda, the Seychelles and Mauritius.
