Word Rashtrakuta is derived from Sanskrit words ‘Rashtra’ and ‘Kutas’; ‘Rashtra’ means country, and ‘Kuta’ means Chieftain. Rashtrakutas were the royal Indian dynasty that ruled the part of the Indian subcontinent between the sixth and 10th centuries. The royal emblem or the royal symbol of this dynasty is Garuda.

This dynasty had ruled the parts of southern, central, and northern India between the sixth and the thirteenth centuries. We get the reference of the Rashtrakutas from the copper plate grant mentioned the ruler from the Manpur, a region in Malwa (Madhya Pradesh). This inscription is considered one of the earliest known inscriptions from the seventh century.
