Bikaner was a Princely State during the British rule in India. Today, Bikaner is a part of Indian State Rajasthan. Bikaner states trace its origin to the 15th Century when it was established by Rao Bikaji between 1465 CE and 1504 CE, the younger son of the Raja of Jodhpur. Bikaner had a strong relationship with the great Mughal Empire through contracts and marriages and they gave outstanding service in Mughal Army. But like all other Kingdom Bikaner also came under British rule in 1817 AD.Under the rule of the British Empire, Bikaner acknowledges their authority over the coinage. Bikaner issued their mints but when the British offer to issue coins for Princely state at no charges if they agreed to follow the British designs, Bikaner agreed. In 1894 and 1895 Queen Victoria’s portrait coin was issued in the reign of Maharaja Ganga Singh.
