Gold Half Fanam of Sultan of Bijapur

Bijapur Sultanate was ruled by Adil Shahi Dynasty during the medieval period in India. The Adil Shahi dynasty was the Muslim Dynasty founded by Yusuf Adil Khan, the governor of Bijapur. The Adil Shahi Dynasty ruled the Western area of the Deccan region of Southern India from 1489 to 1686 AD. The relics of Bijapur Sultanate can be found in the city which includes Bijapur Fort, Bara Kaman, Jama Masjid, and Gol Gumbaz.Yusuf Adil Shah was appointed as governor of Bijapur, before establishing Bijapur as an independent kingdom. The Bijapur Sultanate was absorbed into the Mughal Empire on 12 September 1686, after its conquest by Emperor Aurangzeb.
This gold fanam that weighs around 0.19g was issued by the Adil Shahi dynasty from Bijapur Sultanate. The obverse of this coin is inscribed ‘Ali’ in tughra style. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with ‘Adil Shahi’.
