Lunavada was a Princely State during the British rule in India. The name Lunawada; is derived from Luneshwar Mahadev, a Lord Shive temple. It is a town in Mahisagar, situated in the Northern Part of the Indian States of Gujarat. The State Lunavada was founded by Bhim Singh, the Rana of Virpur, in the year 1434. Lunawada; is surrounded by water, the sources being the Panam River, Vasant Sagar, Kishan Sagar, Kanka Talav, Veri, Mahi River, and Darkoli Talav Lake.The state ruler of Lunavada claims that they were the descent of Solanki or Chaulukya dynasty; they constituted one of the sixteen branches of the Solanki tribe and were known as the Virpura Solanki's.
