2021-05-13 Thu

Igor Ivanovich Sikorsky was a Russian-American aviation pioneer in both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. He was born on May 25, 1889, in Kyiv, during that time Kyiv was a part of Russia, but today it is the capital of Ukraine. Igor Sikorsky is considered the father of helicopters. He was given not because he invented the helicopter but because his designs were pioneering.

Igor Sikorsky started working on the design of the helicopter in the early 1900s. His first two attempts which he tried to make in the year 1909 and 1910 failed, but he never drops the idea of making the helicopters. In the year 1939, Igor Sikorsky designed and flew Vought-Sikorsky VS-300, which was the first American helicopter. This helicopter pioneered the first rotor configuration, and today it is used in most of the helicopter. Later, in the year 1942, he designed Sikorsky R-4, which became the world's first mass-produced helicopter in 1942.
