Maharaja Madho Singh II of Princely State Jaipur

Maharajadhiraja Sawai Madho Singh II was the Maharajadhiraja of Jaipur. He sat on the throne of Jaipur from 1880 CE and ruled it until 1922 CE. Madho Singh II was the adopted son of Maharaja Ram Singh.

Madho Singh was born as Kaim Singh to the Thakur of Isardha, a petty chieftain related to the ruling house of Jaipur. After the death of this father, he was left with exile and poverty. Later, he found a job as a risaldar in the cavalry of the Nawab of Tonk.

When Maharaja Ram Singh died he had no heir, so he chose 18 years old Kaim Singh, the second son of Thakur of Isardha to be a Maharaja of Jaipur. Kaim Singh sat on the throne of Jaipur with the title Maharaja Madho Singh II.

This gold mohur was issued by Madho Singh II during his rule in Princely State Jaipur . The weight of this coin is around 10.88g and it was minted in Sawai Jaipur. The obverse of the coin is inscribed with the name and title of Madho Singh II with regal year 35 and ‘Jhar’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed with the name and title of Queen Victoria.
