Ram Narain Malhotra was the 17th governor of the Reserve Bank of India and served between 4 February 1985 and 22 December 1990.

The 2 rupee note features the first satellite of India, Aryabhatt orbiting earth. Aryabhata was first India’s satellite and named after the ancient time Indian astronomer. It was launched on 19 April 1975 from Kapustin Yar, a Russian rocket launch and development site in Astrakhan Oblast using a Kosmos-3M launch vehicle by ISRO.
