George II was the king of Great Britain and Ireland, He was the only son of George I and like his father, after sitting on the throne he spent much of this time in Hanover. George II was the most recent British monarch born outside Great Britain: he was born and brought up in northern Germany.King George II sat on the throne of the British Empire in the year 1727CE and ruled it until 1760 CE. As a king, he exercised little control over British domestic policy, which was largely controlled by the Parliament of Great Britain. King George II served as Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg and Archtreasurer and Prince-Elector of the Holy Roman Empire.
In the year 1945, King George II led his last troop against France at the Battle of Dettingen. This was the last time a British King led his troops into battle.
This commemorative stamp was issued by Greece to commemorate him in the year 1956.
