John Glenn becomes first American to orbit Earth

John was the United States Marine Corps aviator, engineer, astronaut, businessman, and politician. He was the first American in Space, and the first American to orbit the Earth, circling it three times in 1962. He had also served the United States as the Democratic United States from Ohio between 1974 and 1999. He again flew into space in the year 1988 at the age of 77.

Before joining NASA, John Glenn had served as a distinguished fighter pilot in World War II. He shot down three MiG-15s and was awarded six Distinguished Flying Crosses and eighteen Air Medals. He made the first supersonic transcontinental flight across the United States in the year 1957; His on-board camera took the first continuous, panoramic photograph of the United States.
