Gold Gadyana of Kadambas of Goa Listed For INR 1,25,000

This gold gadyana issued by king Jayakeshi III of Kadambas of Goa is listed for INR 1,25,000 in an upcoming auction of Todywalla that will be held in Mumbai on 17th January 2021.

The Kadambas of Goa ruled the region of Goa, during the Late Classical period on the Indian subcontinent between the 10th to 14th centuries CE. They took over the territories of the Silaharas and ruled them at first from Chandor, later making Gopakapattana their capital. They took over the territory of Silaharas and ruled it from Chandor, later they made their capital Gopakapattana.

The weight of this gold gadyana is around 4.3g. The obverse of this gold gadyana depicts ‘lion standing with a raised forepaw and facing left, the cyclical year “Nala” inscribed in the front of the lion in Devnagari, sun and crescent symbols above the lion’. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘ Devnagari legend “Sri Saptakotisha Labdhavara Vira Jayakesideva Malavaramari” in five lines’.
