In 1965 Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Sr. was elected as 10th President of the Philippines. He served the Philippines as a president from 1965 to 1986. As a president of the Philippines, he established an authoritarian regime in the Philippines that came under criticism for corruption and its suppression of democratic processes.
