Lithuanian post has honored the Lithuanian postmodern Painter Sarunas Sauka by issuing a stamp featuring one of the bravest and most controversial pieces of his work ‘Painting of the Millennium of Lithuania’. It was known around the media as the ‘Only to people with strong nerves’.
This painting is displayed in the Lithuanian Presidential Palace, the painting appearing on the posted stamp featuring the naked and bleeding form of Christ with a hand on his face, is a common one in Lithuania folk wooden sculpture. Fin this painting the Christ image looks like Sauka-it's a self-portrait. Beneath his left people from various epochs and times are illustrated with on left corner a girl is absorbing the scene thinking-she is the future of Lithuania.
