It’s inspiring to see an ordinary shopkeeper selling utensils from Beawar, make his mark in the Limca Book for coin collection. 50 year old Shyam Sunder Sadhnani has collected 2000 coins including 193 of UN recognised nations and 134 of old countries.

Sadhnani started collecting coins in 1994. His love for this hobby made him travel across ancient cities and major tourist places. He has gold, silver, copper, aluminum, tin, bronze and brass coins in his collection. The lightest coin weighs 0.5 gram and the heaviest one is of 38 grams. Sadhnani also keeps a track of current affairs so that he knows everything about newly formed countries. He then tries reaching out to tourists coming to Pushkar and Jaipur from these new countries.

He also has a good collection of politically dissolved and merged countries like Hawaii (1889) which is in USA now; Upper Canada (1849) and Lower Canada (1854), both of which have merged to become Canada etc.

The costliest coin in his collection is a coin from Ivory Coast and Kingdom of Britain (KOB) in 1740. Apart from that, he has also invested almost half of his savings for buying coins.

Sadhnani believes that money can fetch you momentary name and fame by a hobby like this one will be remembered by generations.
