IRS-1A is the first Indian Remote Sensing Satellite. It was launched on March 17, 1991, from USSR. The state-of-the-art remote sensing satellite is playing a vital role in the management of the country’s natural resources. Hence, India was listed down as the fifth country around the globe to have its own operational remote sensing satellite.

IRS-1A is advanced as many of its contemporary satellites like US LANDSAT and French SPOT satellite. This satellite has become the mainstay of the National Natural Resource Management System for effective managing of the natural resources across the country.

According to the data, the satellite has covered the entire country about fifty times and provided more than three lakh imageries. This satellite is tracked by the space control center in Bangalore along with ground stations at Lucknow and Mauritius.
