Central Banking 60th Anniversary Celebrated on Ghana Banknote

The Central bank of Ghana was formed in 1957 and celebrated its 60th Anniversary in the year 2017. The bank of Ghana was established the same year when the country achieved independence from the British Rule. The banknote was also a celebration of 60 years of independence in Ghana.The Central Bank issued a special 5 Cedis Banknote in circulation. The new banknote displays an engraved portrait of Dr. James Kwegyir Aggrey, the famous educationist and missionary, who lived from October 18, 1875, to July 30, 1927. Dr. James Kwegyir Aggrey contributed immensely to education to the then Gold Coast.
The portrait is visible from both sides of the note when it is held towards the light. The note also has tactile markings to assist the visually impaired along with an intaglio portrait. The commemorative note is colored blue like the existing GHC5 note and the reverse side features a seaborne oil-drilling rig in the Tweneboa, Enyenra, Ntomme (TEN) offshore field It has hologram security mark. The Banknotes have been limited in quantity.
