New 2,000 Peso Uruguayan Banknote Released

On 27th April 2016, the Central Bank of Uruguay released new 100% cotton fibre 2,000-peso banknotes into circulation corresponding to the 2015 B series.For identification and security purposes, the obverse features an image of Damaso Antonio Larrañaga, the value of the note in letters and the number 2,000 repeated three times, when observed through light. It also has a holographic thread with the Shield of Uruguay and BCU 2000 registration, which upon tilting changes its colour from purple to brown. There are special marks on both sides for the visually impaired.
The reverse features an iridescent band with the inscription $2,000 with BCU 2,000 registration varnish on the right and the figure 2,000 varnished in the bottom left corner.
All previous banknote series will remain in circulation.
