2020-02-26 Wed

The first EUROPA philatelic issued was introduced by the Liechtenstein Post. It illustrates ‘Ancient Postal Routes’ like ‘stagecoach’ and ‘Mount Messenger’. It is a combination print of the two commemorative stamps on a miniature sheet. It is designed by designer René Wolfinger, she has made the issue appear nostalgic through steel engraving.

According to history, Lindau messenger was an important ancient postal route in Liechtenstein. It transported goods, money, and letters. The service operated between the Bavarian town of landau on Lake Constance and Milan, Italy which also passes through Austria, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. It is assumed that he is traveling along the arduous route on a fairly regular basis towards the end of the 15th century.
