Widely celebrated festival all over the world the Lunar New year is commemorated by the Macau Post. The first year of the Chinese New year is represented by the Zodiac animals ‘Rat’ and is followed by the year of the Pig. Macau Post has issued a set of four stamps to welcome this festival which is also known as the Spring Festival.The stamps illustrate the rat in a playful manner while he is planning for the winter holiday. According to Chinese mythology and astrology, there are 12 signs in the Chinese Zodiac. The legend of the Jade Emperor talks about a race commenced between 12 animals. The Ox was the leader as they approach the fining line but the clever rat Jump off the Ox back just before and won. In the Chinese culture, the rat symbolizes intelligence, wealth and vitality. People born in the year of the rat are traditionally considered to be imaginative, generous and successful.
