1st February 1327, was a day when the teenage Edward III was crowned King of England. He led England into the Hundred Years’ War with France. Edward III reigned until his death in 1377. His long reign of 50 years was the second-longest in medieval England.

Edward III was born on 13 November 1312 at Windsor Castle to Edward II and Isabella of France. He was crowned at age fourteen after his father was deposed by his mother. He transformed the Kingdom of England into one of the most formidable military powers in Europe.

King Edward III was an enormously admired and feared knight. The large part of his reign took place during the Hundred Years War with France. Edward III established the Order of the Garter, inspired by the round table of King Arthur. During the regime of Edward III, the weight of Groat was reduced to 72 grains.

This Half groat was issued in his reign from York mint. It depicts the A crowned bust of the King on its obverse face. On the other hand, the reverse of a coin engraved Long cross pattee with three pellets in each quarter.
