Delhi Sultan Nasir Al-Din Khusru Shah Gold Tanka Listed For INR 175,000

Nasir Al-Din Khusru Shah was the ruler of Delhi Sultanate. He ruled the Delhi Sultanate for a very short period.

Nasir Al-Din Khusru was a Hindu and his Hindu name is still a mystery. The name Nasir Al-Din Khusru was given to him by Qutb Al-Din Khusru was given to him by Qutb Al-Din Mubarak Shah; a ruler of Delhi Sultanate from Khalji Dynasty. Nasir Al-Din Khusru Shah tried to gain the favor of Qutb Al-Din Mubarak, But the real plan of Nasir Al-Din Khusru was to kill the Sultan and to sit on the throne of Delhi Sultanate. Unaware of the real plans of Khusru, Mubarak got impressed by his work and raised him to a higher position.

Soon Qutb Al-Din Mubarak became the victim of Khusru’s plan and was killed by him. This victory of Khusru’s was not long-lasting and Ghiyath Al-Din Tughluq came to power within a year after Khusru’s ascend to the Sultanate throne.

Though he was assassinated within a short period of being a Sultan, coins were stuck by him. These gold and silver coins are less in numbers and hence are some of the most sought after coins of the Sultanate period.

This gold tanka which weighs around 10.95g was issued by Nasir Al-Din Khusru from the mint Hadrat Delhi. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Al Sultan Al Azam Nasir Al Dunya Wa’l Din Khusru Shah Al-Sultan. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Al Wathiq Bi Nasir Al Rahman Wali Amir Al Muminin’.
