Death Anniversary of Wladyslaw Reymont

Wladyslaw Stanislaw Reymont was a Polish writer and novelist who was honored with the 1924 Nobel Prize in Literature. His best-known work is the award-winning four-volume novel Ch?opi (The Peasants). It is a chronicle of peasant life during the four seasons of a year. Written almost entirely in peasant dialect, it has been translated into many languages and won the Nobel Prize for Reymont.He was born on 7th May 1867, in the village of Kobielo Wielkie in that part of Poland which was under Russian rule. His mother, Antonina Kupczynska, had a talent for story-telling. She descended from the impoverished Polish nobility from the Krakow region.
His major writing includes Ziemia Obiecana, Komediantka, and Fermenty. Reymont’s later work was less expressive but reflected the variety of his interests. To honor him Poland Postal Department has issued a 2.60 Polish Zloty commemorative postage stamp in the year 2017. This stamp was issued to celebrate 150th birthday of Wladyslaw Reymont.
