The Vishnukundina dynasty was on the Indian imperial dynasty which uses to control Deccan, Odisha and the part of Southern India during the 5th and 6th AD. In Sanskrit, the word Vishnukundina is named for Vinukonda. The Vinkonda were the early ruling dynasties which were migrated to the west in search of employment and during the reign of Vakataka they might have attained feudatory status. Later during the reign of Madhava Varma, they became independent and conquered coastal Andhra from the Salankayanas and established their capital at Denduluru near Eluru, West Godavari district.

These dynasties came to power after the decline of Satavahana in 5th Century AD. The scions of Vishnukundins were probably governed under the suzerainty of Pallavas. The most powerful king of Vishnukundin was Madhavavarman I.

This copper base alloy unit which weighs around 3.98g was issued by the Vishnukundina dynasty. The obverse of this coin depicts the lion facing the right with an upraised paw. The reverse of this coin depicts the conch shell between two tridents.
