Ireland Celebrates the 70th Anniversary of Peace in Europe
2016-04-20 Wed
The 70th anniversary of the day when the Axis powers surrendered and peace returned to the European continent at the end of the Second World War, was celebrated on 8th May, 2015. Ireland had issued a special coin to commemorate this day. After nearly six years of fighting in Europe, Adolph Hitler shot himself and Europe’s nightmare ended. Post that, many countries in the East were occupied by Soviet Forces. Mint of Austria produced these coins for the Central Bank of Ireland. It features 3 doves carrying an olive branch in a Celtic theme, the perfect symbol of peace. The EUROPA star insignia appears on the reverse with the inscription “10 EURO”. The obverse depicts a harp, the national insignia of Ireland, the year of issue and the country’s name in Gaelic.Latest News
