Kenya is a country in East Africa with a coastline on the vast Indian Ocean. It encompasses of a varied landscape ranging from the wild grasslands of savannah, to the lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. It is also a home to the wildlife like lions, elephants and rhinos. From Nairobi, the capital, safaris visit the Maasai Mara Reserve, known for its annual wildbeast migrations, and Amboseli National Park, offering views of Tanzania's 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro.Kenya has a lower-middle-income economy and it is the second-largest economy in eastern and central Africa after Ethiopia, with Nairobi – its capital, serving as a major regional commercial and tourist hub. The shilling is the currency of Kenya. It is divided into 100 cents.
Depicted alongside is a 5 Shillings note issued in1978. The obverse features the portrait of the first President of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta to left with a traditional Zulu shield in centre. The reverse features a Coffee plantation with huts and palm trees with a Coffee picker to right and the Mount Kenya (Mt. Kirinyaga) in the distance. This brown note has the head of a lion as its watermark.
