World Photography Day is observed worldwide on 19th of August every year! On this particular day, millions of people capture different ideas and share their world with others.World Photography Day aims to inspire photographers across the planet to share a single photo with a simple purpose: to share their world with the world. Here is a look at photography over the years. World Photo Day originates from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic process developed by Frenchmen Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1837.
On January 9, 1839, the French Academy of Sciences announced the Daguerreotype process. On August 19, the French government purchased the patent and announced the invention as a gift “free to the world”. Hence, this day is celebrated to promote photography as a hobby and also as a inspire photographers around the globe, motivating them to share a single photo with the rest of the world.
The stamp shown above is the Europa stamp issued by the Republic of France in the year 1983. This 1.80 Euro stamp depicts the camera lens with the world “La Photographie (Photography)” at the top right corner.
