Pobjoy Mint Coins Commemorate 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics

Pobjoy Mint launched a set of four coins for the British Virgin Islands to commemorate the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics that’s scheduled from 24th July to 9th August 2020. The coins will depict two popular sports and two events that will be introduced for the first time in the history of Olympics in 2020.The first coin depicts an Equestrian showjumper in action and a Buddha in the background. This event was introduced in 1900 for one year and was reintroduced in 1912. The second coin highlights the men’s double kayak event with Mount Fuji in the background. This event was introduced in 1936. The third coin shows a surfer within a wave and Sensoji Temple is shown in the background. This event is new to the Olympic Games and will be introduced in 2020. The fourth coin highlights another new event, skateboarding and a bullet train in the background. The Tokyo Summer Olympics medals were produced by recycling more than six million phones. Each coin has coloured traditional Japan-cherry blossom designs, Koi carp, and fans in the border.
They are available in two versions namely, Uncirculated Cupro Nickel and Proof Sterling Silver. All coins are struck four times to attain an impressive Proof finish. All of them weigh 28.28 grams and have a diameter of 38.60 millimetres. The Silver Proof and Coloured Proof coins have a mintage limit of 10,000 pieces each while the Cu-Ni and Coloured Cu-Ni coins have a mintage limit of 2,000 pieces each.
The Cupro Nickel coin comes in a blue presentation pouch. The silver coin is packed in an acrylic capsule and presented in a red box with a certificate of authenticity. The silver coins can be purchased as a four-coin set.
