Began on 8th August 1942, the Quit India Movement was a nationwide movement to wipe out British Rule from India. This historic movement has been portrayed in a one-dollar silver coin issued by Niue Mint.

Niue Mint issued a set of 5 limited edition silver commemorative coins on 2nd October 2015 on Gandhi’s birth anniversary as a lasting tribute to his message and teachings commemorating 100 years since the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India.

The All India Congress Committee on 8th August 1942, Gandhi addressed all the people of India with the message “Do or Die’. We shall either free India or die in the attempt.” Though the main congress leaders were arrested, the force of the movement was so strong that the British Rule of India weakened and by the end of the World War II, the demand for independence in India could no longer be ignored.

This coin is titled "THE FUTURE DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU DO TODAY" on the left to the upper periphery and “QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT, 1942". The engraving shows an aerial view of three waves of marchers in the Quit India Movement.
