Belarus is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. It is known for its Stalinist architecture, grand fortifications and primeval forests. Minsk is its capital and is host to the monumental KGB Headquarters that looms over Independence Square, while the Museum of the Great Patriotic War commemorates the country’s role in WWII. The capital is also home to many churches, including the neo-Romanesque Church of Saints Simon and Helena.
The Belarusian Ruble is the currency of Belarus. The ruble is subdivided into 100 copecks or kopecks/kapeeks. In 1992, banknotes were introduced in denominations of 50 copecks, 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000 and 5,000 rubles. Today we are looking a 50 kapeeks banknote from first series issued in 1992.
This greenish-blue note has a rabbit (hare) running towards to left while the reverse has Vytis (Pahonia): a Belarusian Coat of Arms depicting a horseback warrior wielding a sword, also known as "The Chaser". This note sports geometric tangled lines pattern "braids" as its watermark.
