Romania issued special commemorative stamps to celebrate Simona Halep’s convincing victory in Wimbledon. The stamps are titled as “Simona Halep, Romanian Tennis Ambassador”. Romania’s state-owned company named Romfilatelia issued the stamps. One of them depicts the tennis sensation lifting the Wimbledon 2019 Cup, another one shows Simona Halep’s signature in gold leaf as she is presenting the trophy to the public. A non-dotted collapsed stamp depicts an image from the final match. The stamps along with two FDCs are available at Romfilatelia stores in Bucharest, Bacau, Bra?ov, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara and online.Simona Halep won her first Wimbledon trophy on 13th July after defeating Serena Williams rather easily in two straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. No other Romanian player has won this esteemed competition before. Simona entered the Roland Garros finals twice in 2014 and 2017. She also was the runner up at Australian Open in 2018. She won her first Grand Slam tournament at Roland Garros on 9th June 2018.
